Study Finds Bidirectional Association Between Celiac Disease and IBD

Celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have similar presentations, and both are characterized by chronic immune-mediated gastrointestinal tract inflammation. While associations between the two conditions have been documented in the literature, a new study led by Cleveland Clinic investigators is the first to suggest a bidirectional link and to reveal the impact of IBD treatment on celiac disease.

Very interesting. My GI file is 5 inches thick. I never was positive for #celiacdisease but I'm somewhat of a medical mystery or just bad luck because I've had #ulcerativecolitis, #ischemiccolitis, #colonicinertia, and currently #crohnsdisease and #gastricvolvulus almost took me out last year. Many people suffer from #IBD in silence because it's embarrassing. I did for many years. Finding the right doctor and #treatmentplan is critical.

It's ok to not be ok.

Spreading awareness and talking about it helps remove the #stigma. Thank you, @clevelandclinic, for continuing to advance the ball in this necessary #research. #IBD #IBS #crohnsdisease #gastritis #colitis #autoimmunedisease #biologics #healthcare #celiacdisease #research #mentalhealth #thankyou
